Sensitisation on Disability and Special Friends of PwDs

On 15th November 2023, a campus visit was organized by Autonomous Institute of Health Sciences for IRCS Life Members. The purpose of the visit was to showcase the various departments and different clinical services offered by the institute. The event aimed to provide an insight into the institute's commitment to improving the well-being of persons with disabilities. The visit was attended by the honorable director and all the other faculties. Honorable director Satya Mahapatra, and Dr. Vivek Kumar, who conducted a presentation and discussion on the special friends of persons with disabilities. The visit concluded with a sumptuous lunch.

Presentation and Discussion:

The event commenced with an engaging and informative presentation by the Dr. Vivek Kumar, on the importance of inclusive healthcare systems for persons with disabilities. The presentation highlighted the significance of providing specialized care and support to enhance the quality of life for these individuals. He emphasized the need for creating an environment that promotes equal opportunities and accessibility for all.

Following the presentation, honorable director, Satya Mahapatra, a renowned expert in the field, conducted a discussion on the topic of special friends for persons with disabilities. He elaborated on the role of support patrons and assistive technology in improving the lives of individuals with disabilities. The discussion shed light on the therapeutic benefits of these companions and how they contribute to enhanced physical, emotional, and social well-being.

Department Visits and Clinical Services:

After the presentation and discussion, the attendees were divided into smaller groups and taken on a tour of the various departments at the institute. The departments showcased included audiology, cognition and voice assessment, physiotherapy, and much more. Each department had dedicated professionals who provided a brief overview of their work and demonstrated the services offered.

In the audiology department, visitors had the opportunity to witness audiological assessments conducted by skilled audiologists. The assessments included hearing tests, evaluation of balance disorders, and fitting of hearing aids. The department showcased the latest technology and equipment used in their procedures, highlighting their commitment to providing accurate and comprehensive audiological care.

The cognition and voice assessment department demonstrated their expertise in evaluating speech, language, cognitive functions and voice. Visitors observed the use of innovative techniques and tools for assessing memory, attention, language, and voice quality. The department's professionals showcased their dedication to holistic care by tailoring their assessments to meet individual needs.

The physiotherapy department provided an insight into the diverse range of services offered for physical rehabilitation and pain management. The department showcased various exercises, techniques, and specialized equipment used to aid recovery in individuals with disabilities. Visitors also had the opportunity to witness individualized therapy sessions, showcasing the department's commitment to personalized care.

Other departments, such as occupational therapy, speech therapy, and mental health services, also displayed their unique approaches to supporting persons with disabilities. The interactive visits allowed the attendees to gain a comprehensive understanding of the institute's multidisciplinary approach to healthcare.<\p>
